Dr Dawson graduated with a First Class Honours BSc (Med Sci) in 1995 and then with Commendation from Aberdeen University Medical School in 1997. Following this she completed a medical rotation in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, achieving Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2000. Dr Dawson then undertook a period of clinical research in echocardiography at the University of Dundee/Ninewells Hospital, resulting in the postgraduate award of MD (Doctor of Medicine). Specialist cardiology training was completed in the North of England, at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and Freeman Hospital, Newcastle. Additional cardiac MRI training was obtained by a fellowship at Royal Brompton Hospital, London in 2008.
Dr Dawson achieved a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Cardiology in 2009 and worked as a locum consultant cardiologist at the University Hospital of North Tees until 2010 when she returned to Tayside to take up a substantive consultant cardiologist post at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. In 2015 she relocated to Aberdeenshire and took up her current post of consultant cardiologist with an interest in cardiac imaging, at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
