Personal Profile
Mr MacDonald studied at The University of Glasgow, graduating in 1998. He undertook his early training in the West of Scotland before moving down to Cambridge as a registrar. He completed his training with a year in Australia, lecturing at The University of Adelaide and taking a post as Joint Replacement Fellow at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Since 2011 he has been working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at 2 hospitals within Lanarkshire, and privately at Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow.
Mr MacDonald has specialist interest in hip and knee replacement surgery, including complex primary surgery and revision cases. He has more than 10 years of NHS experience in these areas.
He also has experience in the assessment and non-operative management of back pain and sciatica, non-specific hip and knee pain and hip bursitis. In his NHS practice he also sees hand and wrist problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger.
Mr MacDonald is interested in teaching and training and is currently one of the panel of examiners for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He is also part of the teaching faculty for the AO foundation, a worldwide organisation dedicated to innovation in the surgical treatment of fractures.
In his spare time he enjoys hillwalking, running, cycling, and Jiu-Jitsu.
