Personal Profile
Miss Maino is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with extensive expertise in treating adult and paediatric ocular motility problems (double vision, strabismus (squint), abnormal head posture, reading difficulties/dyslexia) with surgical, medical and optical treatments. Miss Maino has also a special interest in diagnosing and treating acquired problems (e.g. caused by thyroid eye disease, direct trauma, road accidents, stroke, cancer treatment) both in the field of eye movement and perception of images.
She has an interest in medical education and research, actively participating to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes as organiser, lecturer and trainer. She is a member of the Global Ophthalmology committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. She has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers in international journals. She regularly reviews and presents papers at national and international conferences.
She contributes in setting standards for paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus exams the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO). In 2021, she was elected to the EBO Subspecialty Exam in Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology Board. This exam provides a formal recognition of expertise in Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology across Europe. Since 2023, she is Chair of the Education Committee, European Board of Ophthalmology.
