After obtaining his medical degree with great distinction at the University of Ghent (Belgium), he did his post-graduate training on the British Isles. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1995. In addition to his neurosurgical training at the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Liverpool, he did Fellowships in Spinal Injuries and Spinal Orthopaedic Surgery at the world-renowned Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, as well as a Felllowship in Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery at the world-famous Schulthess Klinik in Zürich. Through doing so, he has gained a wealth of experience in spinal surgery, which includes complex instrumentation procedures for the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
He was awarded the Neurosurgical Specialty Fellowship in 2001. As a Consultant in the subsequent years, he has expanded his experience and pioneered new treatments such as cervical disc replacement and instrumented fixation for spondylolysis.
Mr Bosma has published and presented numerous papers at national and international conferences. He has also given presentations and been part of the faculty as an invited speaker. In addition to this, following on from his work as an anatomy demonstrator for 4 years during his studies, he taught Neurosurgery in general to students in Liverpool, Southampton and Sheffield. Furthermore, he has taught spinal surgical assessment and techniques to trainees in Neurosurgery and Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery internationally.
