Personal Profile
Dr Sarma studied at Gonville and Caius College Carmbridge, and at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine. He undertook his general medical and surgical training in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Nottingham before starting his cardiology career at Glenfield Hospital Leicester. He then won a prestigious Wellcome Foundation Fellowship to undertake his PhD research at the University of Edinburgh. He stayed in Edinburgh as the Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology where he completed his clinical training as well as publishing multiple research papers. He then won a British Heart Foundation Advanced Training Scholarship and worked in the Cardiovascular Centre in Aalst, Belgium, undertaking complex novel cardiac procedures and continuing his research.
Dr Sarma has worked at Wythenshawe Hospital as a Consultant since 2008, where he is now the Clinical Director. He is part of the NHS Clinical Senate for North West England and has co-written cardiac guidelines for NICE.
