He undertook his higher surgical training on the SW Thames registrar training programme, completing specialist training in general surgical and colorectal laparoscopic (key hole) surgery. He was awarded a Royal College of Surgeons of England Research Fellowship in 2004, completing an MD thesis on colorectal cancer genetics at The University of Southampton and Cancer Research UK Lincoln’s Inn Fields London.
He has a number of publications and has presented internationally on colorectal disease. His specialist colorectal training was further enhanced by a year at a major Australian teaching hospital, Flinders Medical Centre. He has increased his skills in laparoscopic surgery since appointment as a consultant surgeon in 2008 and extended his interest in patient enhanced recovery as 'clinical champion' for Kent, Surrey and Sussex Strategic Health Authority.
