Personal profile
Mr Maraqa is a Consultant in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield. In addition to his regular NHS surgical duties, he leads the breast multi-disciplinary team meetings and is also Governance Lead to the breast services.
He has an interest in breast cancer research, with a doctoral degree (MD) in genes associated with tamoxifen resistance (University of Leeds), in addition to interests in statistics and critical appraisal. He is a peer-reviewer to the British Medical Journal, British Journal of Surgery and various other medical journals.
His clinical practice is entirely dedicated to breast surgery, particularly the management of benign and malignant breast disease and risk reducing surgery. He offers a full complement of surgical procedures such as lumpectomies, mastectomies, breast reduction techniques to treat breast cancer (therapeutic mammoplasty), lipomodelling (fat transfer), immediate reconstruction and symmetrisation surgery.
