Training and Appointment
He trained at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London before undertaking fellowships in corneal and refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, Australia.
Mr Tappin offers the full range of vision correction procedures as well as laser cataract surgery, a minimally invasive procedure performed using a laser which eliminates the use of a blade. He also performs the new Sulcoflex DUET Lens Exchange – an adjustable solution to correct vision at all distances and the first to offer lifelong reversibility.
Publications, lectures and teaching
In 2005, he became the first surgeon in the UK to perform an endothelial cell transplantation now known as DMEK. The pioneering technique is a less invasive surgery to treat Fuchs Dystrophy and endothelial cell failure. He also recently published a new surgical technique for the treatment of pterygium.
