Mr Shorafa has been trained extensively in the field of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Surgery. Following his undergraduate Dental and Medical qualifications he has worked and trained in many renowned hospitals both nationally and internationally.
He qualified in Dentistry from SDM Dental College, Dharwad in India in 1992. During this time he also undertook a period of focussed research and was subsequently awarded a Masters Degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (MDS). After further postgraduate training in the UK, he qualified in Medicine from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London.
Having trained in General Surgery, Ear Nose and Throat Surgery and Neurosurgery in 2008 he commenced his speciality training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery working in some of London’s leading hospitals including Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, Eastman Dental Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, and Northwest London Hospitals.
Having completed his higher surgical training he passed the Intercollegiate FRCS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was subsequently awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training.
Mr Shorafa has worked as a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at many hospitals throughout the United Kingdom where he has gained extensive experience. He is registered with both the General Medical Council and General Dental Council and is a registered specialist both for Oral Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Mr Shorafa has a special interest in Orthognathic Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma, Oral Surgery, Dental Implantology including Bone grafting and Sinus lift, Skin lesions and cancer of the Head & neck region. He is well trained and helps General Medical and Dental practitioners in the diagnosis of the mucosal lesions of the oral cavity and tongue.
He continues to take an active interest in medical education and training. He is an examiner for the MFDS part 2 examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and MJDF part 2 examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Mr. Shorafa is a panel member for SITE, which is a formative assessment of all core trainees across all surgical specialties, he is also one of the few Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons on the panel of examiners for Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship in Oral Surgery.
Mr Shorafa is an instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support course (ATLS). At present he is Lead Clinician Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon for the regional services and appointed as consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon for Heatherwood & Wexham Park Hospitals and London Northwest Hospitals.
