Mr Mukhtar Ahmad is a Consultant in general surgery, along with colorectal and pelvic floor surgery, where he was trained in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and various locations in the Northeast of England before joining Poole Hospital in 2013.
His subspecialty interests are colorectal cancer and pelvic floor disorders for which he offers robotic and laparoscopic surgery. He is currently the lead clinician for colorectal cancer at Poole Hospital. He led the task group that oversaw the establishment of a Surgical Assessment Unit at Poole Hospital, which has improved the quality of care provided to acutely unwell surgical patients.
He has organised courses to train aspiring surgeons in pelvic floor surgery and published papers on this highly specialised area in peer-reviewed journals.
Mr Mukhtar Ahmad received a Clinical Excellence Award April 2017.
Mr Ahmad holds private clinics at The Harbour Hospital and provides consultations for patients with groin swelling, rectal bleeding, bowel incontinence, constipation, abdominal pain, abdominal swelling, gallstones, haemorrhoids and all issues with colorectal cancer and hernias.
Mr Ahmad is passionate about improving patient safety in his native Africa and he volunteers on several health partnerships between UK and African institutions.
