Dr Wilkey Qualified in 1988 and started her paediatric training in the North Central and East sector working at the Great Ormond street Hospital , St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals, where she developed her haematology and Oncology interest. She was the college tutor for the paediatric department for several years and under her leadership the paediatric training unit at the North Middlesex Hospital became the top most trust requested for paediatric training in London.
In 2014 she took on the role as one of the Training programme directors in the paediatric deanery with the Quality improvement team and later on in 2017 now a programme manager for ST1- ST3 in the London Paediatric Deanery.
Dr Wilkey has an interest in education, not only in the deanery but also in the local trust and later in 2004 became a Foundation Programme Directors providing pastoral care for newly qualified doctors starting in the trust.
She has recently been appointed the Deputy Director of Post Graduate medical Education in 2021.
Dr Wilkey is an examiner for the Mock and final exams for medical students in the trust.
She is also an MRCPCh examiner for the Royal College of Paediatricians.
Dr Wilkey has been author and co-author of several abstract and peer reviewed papers and has an interest in research. Due to her commitment to the NHS over the years she has been awarded a number of clinical excellence award.
Dr Wilkey has developed a special interest in haematology and Oncology is the lead consultant in Paediatric Haematology and Oncology and Oncology at the NHS practice. This involves providing a weekly outpatient service for haematology problems ranging from problems with platelets, red blood cells like anaemia and white cells and other haematology problems including enlarged gland and lymph nodes.
Dr Wilkey also has an interest in Rheumatology.
Dr Wilkey is the named shared care consultant for Paediatric Haematology and Oncology and manages patients with malignancies jointly with tertiary centres having trained at Great Ormond Street.
Performing the initial investigation in cases of childhood malignancies and then referring to the tertiary centres. Managing episodes of febrile neutropenia and providing long-term follow-up in a weekly Haematology and Oncology clinic.
Dr Wilkey is the lead paediatric consultant for the East of England network for children with Sickle cell anaemia and Thalassemia. She provides a comprehensive Sickle cell service with a Multidisciplinary team of nurses, counsellors, and psychologists for 250 patients at the NMH and supervises complicated patients in the local haemoglobinopathy centres.
