He gained extensive training in all aspects of knee surgery while undertaking Knee fellowships at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne and Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
He has been working as a Specialist Hip and Knee Surgeon in Manchester since 2005. He undertakes a large number of surgical procedures related to the hip and knee in his NHS and private practice. He performs cemented total hip replacements for hip arthritis, and total as well as partial knee replacements for arthritic knees. He also offers robotic knee replacement surgery.
A large part of his surgical practice involves arthroscopic (keyhole) knee surgery, including arthroscopic anterior cruciate (ACL) reconstruction and cartilage surgery for torn knee cartilage. He performs ligament reconstruction for multi-ligament knee injury, and offers surgery for recurrent dislocation of the knee cap.
Mr Phaltankar's research interest includes various aspects of ACL reconstruction. He keeps himself updated with the latest developments and techniques in the field of hip and knee surgery. He and his team of allied healthcare professionals work closely together to ensure that his patients progress smoothly through the treatment pathway and have a speedy recovery.
