Personal profile
Miss Akhtar graduated from The University of Manchester Medical School in 2001 and completed her specialist orthopaedic training in the North West region. She undertook her Foot and Ankle fellowship at the internationally-renowned Wrightington Hospital. During her orthopaedic training, she pursued her passion in research, undertaking research projects in the area of foot and ankle surgery which have been published in peer-reviewed journals. She received prizes for her research at both national and international orthopaedic meetings.
She has a strong passion and interest in medical education. She is a Clinical and Educational Supervisor for junior doctors in training, has been an Honorary Senior Lecturer for Edge Hill University and is currently a Faculty Member for a number of courses for surgical trainees. She is the Speciality Training Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics at The Royal Oldham and Rochdale Infirmary Hospitals. She has been appointed as Surgical Tutor at Northern Care Alliance (Pennine Acute Trust) for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
In her spare time she enjoys travelling, undertaking charity work for the underprivileged and spending time with her children.
