Vikesh Patel is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals in Preston. He performs cataract surgery and has a special interest in oculoplastic (eyelid), lacrimal (watery eye) and orbital surgery.
Vikesh graduated from the University of Dundee in 1998 and completed his basic ophthalmic surgical training in Taunton and Nottingham, then went on to higher surgical training in Nottingham and Cardiff. In 2008, he completed a fellowship in oculoplastic surgery at the internationally renowned Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. He was appointed as a NHS consultant in Lancashire Teaching Hospitals in Preston in 2010.
He offers specialist knowledge and skills in eyelid and lacrimal surgery, including upper eyelid blepharoplasty (droopy eyelids) and lower eyelid blepharoplasty (eyebag removal), innovative techniques in ptosis surgery (droopy eyelids), endonasal DCR (watery eye) surgery, and eyelid reconstruction following tumour removal. He also performs microincisional cataract surgery as well as managing all aspects of general ophthalmology.
Vikesh is committed to teaching and training for both trainees and medical students. He is currently the Royal College of Ophthalmologists tutor, educational supervisor and undergraduate academic advisor. He has volunteered in both India and Cambodia, performing cataract surgery and providing oculoplastic training to local doctors.
He is a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgical Society (BOPSS) and European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS). Vikesh has published in peer-reviewed journals on numerous topics and presented scientific papers internationally.
