Professional Profile

Mr O’Hara is a substantive General and Colorectal Consultant Surgeon at Milton Keynes University Hospital as well as working here at Saxon Clinic. He is also JAG accredited upper and lower GI endoscopist.

Mr O’Hara qualified in 1991 at the University of Nottingham Medical School and completed his Higher Surgical Training in the Oxford Deanery. He obtained a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree at Hull University Teaching Hospital. His research into Colorectal Cancer Immunology was awarded the Piedmont Prize at the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Buckingham Medical School. He is an examiner for the MRCS examinations for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is an Intercollegiate Examiner for the FRCS, the Senior Exams for Surgeons.

Mr O’Hara has worked for over 20 years as a Consultant Surgeon, having been appointed as a General and Colorectal Surgeon at Milton Keynes University Hospital in 2003. He has held posts as the Clinical Director, Colorectal Cancer lead and Cancer lead for the Trust. He has also been on the Board of the School of Surgery for the Oxford Deanery,

Mr O’Hara has a wealth of experience across the whole spectrum of General surgical conditions and has a specialist interest in benign colorectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures and anal fistulae, as well as colorectal cancer and endoscopy.  He is trained in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) and robotic surgery.
