About us

Bishops Wood Hospital is a 42 bedded acute care unit, built within the grounds of Mount Vernon Hospital. The specialist facilities available at Mount Vernon, combined with the latest in technology and on-site support services, enable our consultants to undertake a wide range of procedures from routine investigations to complex surgery.
All bedrooms at Bishops Wood Hospital offer privacy and the comfort of full en-suite facilities with bath or shower, satellite television and radio. 

This expertise is supported by caring and professional medical staff, with dedicated nursing teams and resident medical officers on duty 24 hours a day, providing care within a friendly and comfortable environment.

Orthopaedics is another area of focus, with specialists available for consultation each day across a full range of musculoskeletal conditions. Our consultants work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, supported by our in-house physiotherapists and imaging department.

There is a varied menu and we can cater for most dietary requirements with a few days notice. Between 9 am and 7:30pm, the chef is available to discuss any special requests, although a few hours notice may be necessary. Visitors are welcome to dine either with the patient they are visiting or in the restaurant. Cold snacks, such as sandwiches, can be ordered at any time of the day or night.

There is of course immediate access to nursing support via a call system. All rooms are supplied with piped oxygen and suction.

Visitors are welcome between 8 am and 10 pm and when appropriate around the clock.

Bishops Wood Hospital does not offer a Paediatric service and any person under the age of 18 is unable to be seen at this hospital.

Local clinics

Rapid access to the Bupa accredited breast care service includes fast access to a consultation with a specialist consultant breast surgeon and a Macmillan breast care nurse specialist. On-site diagnostics are available for the patient after the consultation if a digital mammography or ultrasound is required. Results are interpreted by a specialist radiographer and are delivered by the consultant on the same day.

The breast care team manages all aspects of breast disease/symptoms including family history. The one stop clinic allows patients to receive a fast diagnosis and in many cases, gives them the re-assurance they were looking for.

Car

If using a Sat Nav, you will need the following postcode: HA6 2RN. Once you reach the area, you will need to drive through 'Gate 3' entrance, and then turn at your first left. This will lead you straight to the hospital.

We have on-site parking available, free of charge. Please input your car registration details on the tablet at reception on arrival, to validate your free parking.

The hospital is near two junctions: 17 and 18 of the M25 motorway.

Driving from junction 18  enter onto the A404. Head towards Rickmansworth and at the four roundabouts you will encounter, simply follow the signs to remain on the A404 which will be signed posted Northwood. When you reach the 'Olde Greene Manne public house', turn right into White Hill (towards Harefield). After about half a mile turn left through 'Gate 3' entrance of Mount Vernon Hospital and follow the signs for the Bishops Wood Hospital.

Driving from junction 17  follow the signs for Maple Cross and Rickmansworth, turning left at the A412 roundabout to Rickmansworth. At each of the next three roundabouts turn right, travelling on the A404 which will be sign posted to Northwood. When you reach the 'Olde Greene Manne public house', turn right into White Hill (towards Harefield). After about half a mile turn left through 'Gate 3' entrance of Mount Vernon Hospital and follow the signs for the Bishops Wood Hospital.

Bus

From Northwood high street (stop C, opposite the tube station) take the 282 bus towards Northwood, to Mount Vernon Hospital, stop AP.

Underground

The closest tube station to Bishops Wood Hospital is Northwood Station, located in Northwood High Street. The Metropolitan line runs through the station on a regular basis. Buses run directly from the station to the hospital alternatively you can take a taxi.

    I had a private room, everytime someone, ie medical staff wanted to speak to me or do anything medical they knocked be fore entering the room. I was regularly asked if I had any questions or needed anything. Overall my treatment was impeccable.
