Clinical interests

  • Mr Bailey specialises in surgery of the knee, shoulder and hip.  His main interests are the management of sports injuries and the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly in younger people.  He undertook Fellowship training at Sportsmed SA, the largest sports medicine hospital in Australia, where he treated traumatic injuries and degenerate conditions in amateur and professional athletes.
  • Mr Bailey undertakes partial and total joint replacement procedures using minimally invasive and computer-assisted techniques and uses the latest technology in bearing surfaces which aim to increase the longevity of modern joint replacements.

Professional profile

Mr Bailey completed his undergraduate medical training in Leeds and basic surgical training in Newcastle-upon-Tyne before higher orthopaedic surgical training at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, Shropshire.  He gained extensive experience in the management of traumatic and degenerate conditions of the upper and lower limbs and completed his training with a Sports Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Fellowship in Australia.

His research interests include the biomechanical testing of orthopaedic implants, computer-assisted surgery and the clinical outcomes of procedures for patellofemoral disorders.

Mr Bailey has an NHS practice at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital where he manages disorders of the knee, shoulder and hip and treats upper and lower limb trauma. He is closely involved in the Enhanced Recovery Programme after joint replacement and the collection of Patient-Recorded Outcome Measures.
