Dominic studied medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge University and graduated in 1994. He gained the fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and London in 1999, achieving the Hallet Prize and Medal for the top mark in the London examination. He worked in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Auckland, New Zealand before returning to the UK and joining the the trauma and orthopaedic specialist registrar training programme based at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. He gained the FRCS Tr & Orth in 2005 and membership of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2008.
He has worked as a lecturer in Cambridge and Birmingham Universities. He completed fellowship training in hand surgery at the Ulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby and the Birmingham Hand Centre. He trained in microsurgery in Singapore and undertook travelling fellowship training in brachial plexus and peripheral nerve reconstructive surgery in Thailand and Malaysia in 2007. He was appointed as a full time Hand Surgeon at the Birmingham Hand Centre, University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust in 2007.
