Professional profile

Dr Chris Meaden trained in medicine at Cambridge and Oxford Universities and completed specialist training in gastroenterology and general medicine in the Manchester region. He has been a consultant at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Westmorland General Hospital since 2005.

He believes in allowing patients enough opportunity to express themselves and placing them at the centre of the decision making process after being informed of their options. Initial and all follow up consultations will be with him personally.

Patients who are referred to him typically have complaints such as: - Abdominal pain/discomfort - Indigestion/heartburn/wind/bloating - A change in bowel habit (diarrhoea and constipation) - Bleeding at defaction - Anaemia - Gallstone problems - Abnormal scan results - Abnormal liver tests (LFT's) - A family history of cancer. These complaints usually require a combination of tests including endoscopy, which he performs himself. Dr Meaden has particular expertise in endoscopy and is an endoscopy trainer at the National Endoscopy Training Centre. He is also accredited to perform bowel cancer screening.
