BMI Ross Hall’s Headaches Clinic was a victim of its own success and Sharon became increasingly concerned that patients were waiting over a week for a follow up appointment. Despite extending the opening hours, demand continued to outstrip supply. Sharon devised a nurse led clinic which has reduced waiting time and provided the support patients need. Her professionalism and capability have secured the support of the hospital’s consultants and her clinic is increasingly in demand.
This award provides us with an opportunity to recognise the nurse who best embodies the spirit of the great nurse in their dedication to their profession and the recognition of excellence by others. Quietly determined and passionate about patient care, Jacky has immersed herself in a long academic programme. After achieving her Masters in Advanced Nursing, Jacky was invited to take part in an ambassadorial trip to China to support the government’s plan to up-skill the Chinese nursing workforce. She applies her skill on a daily basis and unassumingly shares her knowledge with her supportive colleagues.
Herman’s contribution to the hospital, its consultants and patients has been inestimable. He has combined his communication skills and clinical ability to create an astonishingly high level of confidence in the quality of care provided by the Spinal Team. He is generous of his time and knowledge and his dedication to healthcare, nursing and patient care is exemplary.
Sammy has happily offered his services as translator and extended friendship to a long term patient, who was badly injured in the recent unrest in Libya, visiting him every day without fail for nine months. Such prolonged separation from friends and family has not been easy for the patient and Sammy has taken great pains to make life a little more bearable. He has brought in familiar food from the patient’s home country and over time struck up a great friendship with the patient. Sammy’s thoughtfulness has extended beyond care in the hospital; for the patient’s birthday he and a number of his colleagues organised a trip on the London Eye followed by a celebratory dinner.
