A team of clinicians from BMI The Clementine Churchill Hospital will be the stars of Sky1’s new TV series, “Obese: A Year to Save My Life” The show, produced by Eyeworks UK, was partly filmed at BMI The Clementine Churchill Hospital and follows the trials and tribulations of nine obese individuals as they battle through major diet and exercise regimes to lose half their body weight.

The team at the hospital, Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive & Hand Surgeon Mr David Crawford and Consultant Vascular Surgeon Miss Sophie Renton, were involved in the journeys of two of the shows contributors Jack Gorney and Liz Powell.  During the year Jack was refereed to Mr Crawford to surgically correct his gynecomastia, or man boobs, while Liz saw Miss Renton for consultation on the  lymphedema in her leg.

Reflecting on the filming Executive Director Jan Hale at BMI The Clementine Churchill Hospital commented, “Everyday at our hospital, we see the devastating impact obesity can have on people’s health and quality of life. This show provides a beacon of hope for the many people throughout the UK who have become overwhelmed by ongoing struggles with their weight. These brave participants have undergone intense diet and exercise regimes during the course of their year, so it was hugely important that they have trained medical experts on hand to monitor their progress and ensure their wellbeing as they undertook this life-changing – and indeed life-saving – journey.

The show is a real rollercoaster of emotions and I look forward to seeing the contributor’s journeys in full. They all have something to be proud of but some of the contributors really grasped the opportunity by the horns and I think that many people will be astounded at how much difference a year can make in changing your life!”

‘Obese: A Year to Save My Life’, which is hosted by the fitness expert Jessie Pavelka, is being shown on Sky1 in the New Year. To find out more information on the show please visit:
