Orthopaedic surgery is a specialised area of medicine that helps treat conditions affecting your bones, joints, and their surrounding soft tissue.

Your bones, joints and their structures are known as your musculoskeletal system. Your musculoskeletal system protects your vital organs, supports your bodily functions, and allows you to move properly. Musculoskeletal injuries and disorders can cause pain and severe swelling, which can severely impact your quality of life. If treatment options such as physiotherapy and steroid injections have not helped alleviate your symptoms, you might need surgery.

We offer a wide range of orthopaedic procedures. These include:

Knee surgery

This will vary depending on your diagnosis, but if you suffer from knee pain due to arthritis, you might be advised to undergo knee joint replacement surgery.

Hip surgery

If your symptoms do not improve with medication or injections, you might need hip replacement surgery.

Spinal surgery

Spinal surgery can treat pain caused by pressure put on the nerves in your spine. These nerves might be compressed as a result of a slipped disc (when the spongy tissue between your spine's bones press against your surrounding nerves) or lumbar (lower back) spinal stenosis, which happens when the area around your spinal cord narrows, causing your nerves to become compressed.

Shoulder and elbow surgery

If you are suffering from persistent shoulder pain, a shoulder arthroscopy can investigate the cause of your symptoms. If you have severe arthritis in your shoulder, your consultant might advise having shoulder replacement surgery.

Hand and wrist surgery

If you have osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis in your fingers, the affected small joints in your fingers can be replaced with an implant or prosthetic. A finger joint fusion can also relieve arthritic pain by removing the damaged ends of your finger joint.

Foot and ankle surgery

You might be advised to have foot and ankle surgery to treat ankle pain, remove bunions (a bony lump that can form on the outside of your toe), or correct any deformities or problems with your toes.

Our dedicated network consultant orthopaedic surgeons work with a multidisciplinary team of specialists across our hospitals to investigate your symptoms, execute your treatment plan, and provide consistent support throughout your healthcare journey.

The cost of your orthopaedic surgery differs depending on your individual needs (including aftercare) and the location in which you receive treatment.

Your consultant will discuss the cost of your surgery in greater detail at your first consultation, after which a quote of your fixed price package will be provided. We offer several easy payment options that allow you to spread the cost of your payment across a timeframe that suits you. These include:

Flexible payments

Our flexible payments option from Chrysalis Finance means you can pay a series of monthly repayments over a timeframe that works for you.

This means you don't have to worry about paying bills during your treatment journey.

Private medical insurance

If you are using private medical insurance for treatment, you need to speak to your insurance provider about any excess on your claim.

There are several reasons why you might be advised to have orthopaedic surgery. These include:

Osteoarthritis:
This occurs when your cartilage (the tissue on the surface of your joints) breaks down. As a result, the bones in your joint might rub together, causing pain, swelling and stiffness.

Rheumatoid arthritis: This is a form of arthritis caused by your immune system attacking the cells in the lining of your joints. If left untreated, it can cause your joint to lose shape and alignment. It can also result in pain and swelling.

Compressed nerves in your spine (spinal problems): If the nerves in your spine are compressed, you might experience pain in your back or in your leg.

Injuries: An injury can occur following a traumatic accident. A sprain, which happens when one or more of your ligaments have been torn or stretched, is a common sports injury. Other injuries include strains (tears in your muscle tissue) or fractures (broken bones).
