Personal Profile

Mr Andrew Ballaro is a full time NHS Consultant Urological Surgeon, specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of commonly occurring urological concerns such as blood in the urine, urinary infections, prostate and bladder problems and cancer diagnosis.

Mr Ballaro has a major interest in the management of kidney stones and prostate problems and set up and runs a high volume stone service in his large London NHS trust, consistently publishing high quality outcomes for complex stone surgery. He also offers a range of treatments for enlarged prostates including Holmium laser Prostatectomy (HOLEP) and Rezum steam therapy, and MRI-Fusion transperineal prostate biopsy for raised PSA and prostate cancer diagnosis.

Mr Ballaro is approved by all major insurance companies and is supported by a highly professional practice management team. He is also one of the few clinicians to offer an on-line service which enables easy patient access to results and further medical advice by email.

In terms of training, Mr Ballaro qualified from The Royal Free Hospital Medical School, London and undertook basic surgical training in Oxford. He achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of London in 1999 and, after being awarded both a Masters Degree in Urology and MD in Clinical Sciences from The Institute of Urology at University College London, completed higher urological training on the North London Training Scheme. He received further advanced training in complex stone surgery and laparoscopy from nationally and internationally recognised experts and has been a full time NHS London Consultant Urologist since 2008.

In addition to his clinical interests, Mr Ballaro has an interest in Urological Education and teaches urological surgery to London Deanery Trainees at all levels. He has a research interest in minimally invasive surgical techniques and the basic science of bladder dysfunction on which he has over fifty publications and was awarded a Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England for his work in 2004.
