Dr Nnatu has been a consultant psychiatrist with the NHS since 2006.
Dr Nnatu qualified with the MBBS degree in 1994. He then completed his postgraduate psychiatric training in London with the Charing Cross and St Mary’s basic psychiatrist training scheme, working in some of the leading teaching hospitals in London. He was awarded the membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists MRCPsych by examination in 2002. His higher psychiatric training was also on the Charing Cross Higher Psychiatric Training Scheme working in various hospitals in west London.

He is among a handful of psychiatrists who have also done post graduate training in cognitive behavioural therapy. As a specialist registrar, he trained in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, leading to the award of a postgraduate diploma in CBT in 2006.

Following completion of psychiatric training as specialist registrar, Dr Nnatu was appointed consultant psychiatrist with West London Mental Health NHS Trust in 2006 where he helped to develop an award winning psychiatric intensive care unit delivering highly specialised treatment to patients with severe and complex mental disorders such as schizophrenia, acute psychoses and bipolar disorders. Dr Nnatu also led a specialist service for patients with severe resistant mood disorders at the Electroconvulsive Therapy Clinic with West London Health Trust covering the boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith and Hounslow. Under his leadership, the ECT Clinic was one of the first clinics in the country to be accredited with excellence by the Royal College of Psychiatrists ECT Accreditation Service (ECTAS). More recently, he has worked in a community crisis and assessment service in Hammersmith attached to Charing Cross Hospital. He has been awarded 5 NHS clinical excellence awards. 

Dr Nnatu has been actively involved in the teaching of medical students at Imperial College and post graduate psychiatric trainees. He was the Royal College of Psychiatrists college tutor at Charing Cross Hospital for 4 years. Dr Nnatu has been an honorary clinical senior lecturer at Imperial College London since 2013 and he has also served as a personal tutor for several years and now serves as an academic tutor.

Dr Nnatu has been in private practice for over a decade, and he was the medical director at Cygnet Hospital, Harrow-on-the-Hill (formerly Bowden House clinic) for 7 years until 2020, where he provided medical leadership to a very busy private psychiatric hospital. He is highly sought after in private practice and he has admitting rights at The Nightingale Hospital, Marylebone London and at The Priory Hospital North London.

In recognition of his contribution to the field of psychiatry, Dr Nnatu was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists FRCPsych in 2013.
Dr Nnatu holds an MSc degree in Healthcare Leadership from the NHS Leadership Academy. 

For the last 3 consecutive years since 2019, he has been featured on the Powerlist as one of the 100 most influential black people in the UK.
