Dr Jan Coebergh is a Consultant Neurologist, specialising in movement disorders, stroke, migraine and headache, functional neurological symptoms, cognitive and behavioural neurology. He is based at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals.
Training and Appointment
Dr Coebergh studied undergraduate medicine at Newcastle University and worked there as a house officer. He undertook his is neurology training in The Hague, The Netherlands.
He has worked as a Consultant Neurologist in the NHS at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals since January 2012 where he he has a specialist Movement Disorders Clinic and is lead for the neurosciences department. He also works as an Honorary Consultant Neurologist at Atkinson Morley Regional Neuroscience Centre at St George's Hospital, Tooting where he has a clinic in Functional Neurological disorders, but also sees Huntington’s and Wilson’s disease patients. He does stroke on-call work.
In his clinical practice he tries to combine the patient care skills which he has learnt from the best consultants with a robust approach to diagnostic work.
Outside the clinic he has a keen interest in medical education and research, with many publications and with projects in musical hallucinations and the recognition of sound in dementia. He co-authored a chapter in the prestigious Handbook of Clinical Neurology on consciousness and another chapter on neurological examination in the Oxford Handbook of Neuropsychiatry.
