Personal Profile
Mr Luke Clifford has been an Ophthalmologist since 2002 and an NHS consultant since 2013 at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester and North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke. He sees private patients at Sarum Road Hospital, Winchester.
His undergraduate training was at Southampton University followed by ophthalmology training in the Wessex deanery and the award of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2011. Additional higher specialist training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus was undertaken at University Hospital Southampton and Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.
His main interests are Cataract Surgery, General ophthalmology, Strabismus (Squint) and Paediatric Ophthalmology.
He established the sub-specialist paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus service at Hampshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He works closely with an Orthoptic team to provide a thorough assessment for all children who require eye care and adults with squints. He has performed over 3000 cataract procedures and has a complication rate below the national average.
Mr Clifford also has extensive experience of treating general and emergency ophthalmic conditions including dry eyes and blepharitis, glaucoma – diagnosis and medical management, eyelid malposition (entropion, ectropion), lid cysts, sudden vision loss and red eyes.
He is involved in the education and training of the next generation of doctors having held the following local, regional, and national positions:

RCOphth Senior Examiner (1 of 3 senior examiners nationally who run the postgraduate exams for all ophthalmologists)
