Dr Nivedita Bajaj is a Consultant Neurodevelopmental Paediatrician with special interests in Neurodevelopmental disorders and Complex Neurodisability. She works within a multidisciplinary team at the Child Development Centre, East and North Herts NHS Trust, since 2011. Additionally, she is the Designated doctor for the Looked after Children and the Care Leavers in Hertfordshire, as well as the BACCH (British Association of Community Child Health) regional coordinator for East of England.
Further to her clinical work, Dr Bajaj has also received recognition for her contribution to improving patient care and has achieved a number of clinical excellence (CEA) awards within the trust for her excellent clinical delivery of services, leadership and academic work.
She was the clinical lead for Autism Services across East and North Herts from 2013 to 2019, during which the service achieved an outstanding rating from CQC. Under her leadership, innovative methods were introduced to improve service delivery. Currently, she represents the College (RCPCH) in NHSE & I (NHS England and NHS Improvement) autism task force and has been responsible for implementing a long-term NHS Plan.
Dr Bajaj has immense experience in working with children and adolescents with ADHD, autism, epilepsy, developmental delay Tics/Tourette’s and a whole range of complex neurodisabilities. She has devoted her career to raising awareness for neurodiverse children to not only eradicate the stigma that surrounds mental health, but to offer youth the best care available to them.
Moreover, she assesses and advises children who are being fostered or adopted, as well as children with sensory impairments, such as visual difficulties or hearing loss. Moreover, she is a certified user of the Griffith’s Developmental Assessment, ADI, 3Di and ADOS assessments for Autism and QbCheck for ADHD. She provides online assessments in UK and internationally.
As part of her goal to improve patient understanding of ADHD, Dr Bajaj has co-written “ADHD In Teenage Girls”, a free online resource, which aims to fill the gap in current literature and empower teenage girls with ADHD through improving their understanding of their condition. This would allow them to take part in individualised management and enable them to succeed in life.
Dr Bajaj has made great contributions to the world of academia and has delivered a number of talks and posters at different forums on related topics, both nationally and internationally. She has chaired and co-chaired national and international scientific meetings and symposiums, and annually delivers talks in a national George Still Forum’s Master Class for ADHD.
Furthermore, Dr Bajaj has a keen interest in research and has participated in European and National research projects within the areas of ADHD, Autism (as principal investigator) and neurodisability. She is currently leading her trust in national autism research and is contributing to international ADHD research.
With a strong training background, Dr Bajaj completed her post graduate training from the London Deanery. During her paediatric training, Dr Bajaj worked at internationally renowned institutions, including Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and the Young Epilepsy and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), gaining broad and remarkable experience in a wide range of complex neurodisability and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Moreover, she is an educational supervisor, mentor, examiner in final year medical students’ OSCEs and interviews paediatric trainees nationally.
Dr Bajaj is a Co-founder of School-Doctor (www.school-doctor.com/), an innovative Social Enterprise, striving for early identification of children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders and training the professionals working with them. She is the Lead link for Child Development courses in one2one mentoring (www.one2onementoring.com/), a registered charity. In order to increase the discussion of prevalent paediatric conditions, she co-moderates on different rooms in Clubhouse such as ‘Childhood Disability’ and ‘Mind-Wellness’. In these discussion rooms, she passionately uses her expertise to educate and advise all those who seek to learn more about neurodisabilities.
