Clinical lead for Speech and Language Therapist at University Hospital Lewisham since 2009. She leads the voice services for both adults and children in the Speech and Language Therapy Department and provides voice therapy input in the renowned Multidisciplinary voice clinic at UHL, one of the leading Paediatric ENT Voice Disorders clinics in the UK.
Dr Rehab has also led the Parallel Voice Clinic at UHL since 2011 that provides both adult and paediatric services under the guidance of Mr Aymat the Clinic Lead for voice. She is a Visiting Associate Professor of Phoniatrics Sciences at Kasr Alaini Hospital, Cairo University since 2017.
She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Cairo University in 1996. She trained in speech and language therapy and laryngology as a Senior SHO in Cairo university hospital between 1997 & 2000.
She was awarded both an MSc and MD in Phoniatrics Sciences from the University of Cairo in 2000 and 2008 respectively. Her research on communication disorders in twins was published as a thesis, and she developed The Arabic Phonological Awareness Test. Rehab studied voice disorders at UCL and was awarded a post-grad diploma in 2005 with distinction.
Rehab has a long experience in managing voice disorders in both adults and children, providing a holistic approach to improving voice quality and ensuring the multidisciplinary approach to addressing voice problems. She is trained in Estille Voice Therapy Techniques, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Techniques and Accent Method Voice Therapy.
She has special interest working with professional voice users (singers, actors, performers)
As part of voice therapy strategies, Rehab also provides treatment nasoendoscopy with her long experience in examining voice patients in a multidisciplinary voice clinic setting and independently in a therapist-led voice clinic setting.
She has helped to develop the Outpatient FEES (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow) services at University Hospital Lewisham and is currently one of the two leads therapists providing the service.
As the Clinical Lead Voice Therapist at University Hospital Lewisham, she is involved in developing departmental policies and competencies frameworks for developing therapists’ skills in managing voice disorders.
Rehab is a bilingual English-Arabic with fluency in both spoken and written languages. She is able to provide assessment and therapy in both languages.
She has an interest and passion for research and has publications in the field of voice and language disorders and has many presentations in national, European and international conferences. She has also been a speaker and a moderator in many national and international conferences.
As a member of the British Voice Association Educational Working Party, she is involved in planning and organising study days, conferences and activities for laryngologists, speech and language therapists, singers and singing teachers.
She is an active member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and has contributed in developing and reviewing various guidelines in the field of voice and its disorders.
She is a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, The Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Private Practice, The British Laryngological Association, The European Laryngological Association, the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, London Voice CEN, VF-FEES CEN and the British Voice association.
