Mr Richard Bird

Mr Richard Bird has a strong interest in surgical education and has been a Royal College Surgeon Tutor at Barnet General for 10 years. He is now a Training Programme Director for Core Surgery in North Central London and sits on both Core and Vascular Surgery training committees. Richard has contributed to the development of vascular surgery at Barnet General and at Royal free Hospital.

Clinical Interests

Appointed as a general and vascular surgeon, Richard sees and treats a wide range of general vascular problems including:

• Aortic aneurysms
• Carotid disease
• Peripheral vascular disease (claudication)
• Diabetic foot

He has expertise in:

• Varicose vein surgery (radiofrequency ablation (VNUS) 

In general surgery he carries out:

• Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder surgery)
• Inguinal hernia repair as well as other hernia repairs 
• Lumps and bumps
