Dr Shagaf H Bakour

I am a fully accredited consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register. I am a Consultant in the NHS at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, Birmingham, UK, an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Birmingham, a consultant at the Priory private hospital, and a consultant at The Edgbaston Hospital. I run general obstetric /  gynaecology, a general gynaecology, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, a specialist scanning, and post menopausal services in the NHS practice. 

I qualified and trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and obtained the MRCOG membership qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, London 1997.  I then obtained MD (Doctorate in Medicine) from University of Birmingham 2003, and then obtained the FRCOG fellowship qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, London 2010.  

I have been the College Tutor in the Trust for Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 2008. I oversee the overall obstetric and gynaecologic training. I have regular commitments in various training courses, teaching laparoscopic surgery, as a supervisor introducing junior to the field of Obs and Gynae, and as a supervisor to medical students studying medicine at the University of Birmingham. As part of Continuing Medical Education, I regularly attend meetings and courses.

I have interest in managing menstrual disorders and postmenopausal problems and I am the lead clinician for training and education. I have been involved in writing the numerous guidelines for the trust  I have been involved in academic research including multicentric prospective projects (BiRTHS study, StAMP study) and submitting articles to medical journals regularly plus acting as referee to high profile Obs/Gynae medical journals. I speak English and Arabic fluently.
