Mr Aamir Zubairy qualified in 1987 from the University of Karachi. He had his internship and basic surgical training in the Republic of Ireland. He completed surgical fellowship (FRCS) in 1994.
His orthopaedic higher surgical training was in various hospitals in the Mersey region (Liverpool) at SpR grade for 6 years. He completed FRCS Ed (Tr & Orth) in 2001. He was awarded a certificate of completion of specialist training (CCST) in 2002. He then did his national fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery at the Wirral University Hospitals, AO trauma and BOFAS, and his travelling fellowships in the USA and Belgium. He has learnt specialised ankle and foot arthroscopic techniques with Prof Nick Van Dijk in Amsterdam.
He was appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at the East Lancashire NHS Trust where he developed his practice with special interests in lower limb and adult foot and ankle disorders. He now leads a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals providing care for routine and complex foot and ankle disorders along with trauma and general orthopaedics. He participates fully with annual appraisals.
He has a special interest in medical education and is currently working on a medical education qualification for Edge Hill University. He is responsible for teaching and training all grades of young doctors. Mr Zubairy teaches on several courses as an invited faculty. He reviews scientific papers for journals of injury, surgeon and STLR.
His research interests include post-operative pain relief, informed consent and patient reported outcome measures. He is currently working on a RCT on toe joint replacement. His work has been presented worldwide in national and international meetings and he’s also published in peer reviewed journals.
