Ms Aileen McKinley has been a Consultant General Surgeon in Aberdeen since 2004. She is originally from Northern Ireland and graduated from Edinburgh University. She started her surgical training in Edinburgh and completed higher surgical training in the North of Scotland.
She has a particular interest in colorectal conditions and in the treatment of colorectal cancer, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. She also has extensive specialist experience in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders. She has developed the Sacral Nerve Stimulation service in Aberdeen, providing the most up-to-date treatment for faecal incontinence.
She is actively involved in teaching and is the Training Programme Director for the surgical programme in the North of Scotland Deanery.
She is actively involved in clinical research into colorectal conditions and is currently recruiting into national randomised controlled trials concerning the post-operative management of Crohn’s disease (TOPPIC), the best treatment for fistula-in-ano (FIAT) and the prevention of parastomal herniation (PROPHECI).
