Personal profile

Originally from a biochemistry and protein chemistry background, Dr Wiles retrained as a medic at the University of Oxford. After his pre-registration year he came to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge for his senior house officer medical training, during which he also spent time at Papworth Hospital and Bury St Edmunds.  

Alan stayed in East Anglia for his specialist gastroenterology training, working at Addenbrookes and the Luton and Dunstable Hospital amongst others. After a year working as a specialist clinical fellow in small bowel transplantation, he came to Kings Lynn to start his consultant career over five years ago. 

He is the lead for inflammatory bowel diseases and plays an active role in teaching of undergraduate and post graduates, specifically simulator based teaching and training, and endoscopy teaching of gastroenterology trainees.
