Like all NHS-appointed medically-qualified physicians, Professor Andrew Jeffrey has undergone extensive training in medicine in general and Respiratory Medicine in particular.
He has been an NHS consultant since 1993, providing general medical, respiratory and intensive care services to the patients of Northampton General Hospital. Prior to taking up his post in Northampton he worked both clinically and in research in Edinburgh, Manchester, Cardiff, Paris (as an INSERM research Fellow) and London (as a clinical Lecturer in UCL).
He is Director of Medical Education for the hospital and an honorary Senior Lecturer in the University of Oxford and as such responsible for the oversight of all medical training (from undergraduate to specialist) that is undertaken in the hospital.
In addition to being Director of Medical Education for his hospital, he is Censor of the Royal College of Physicians of London and immediate past chairman of NACT UK. As Censor of the RCP, he a senior examiner for the MRCP examination, a member of the College Education committee and an educational advisor to the President.
Publications include approximately 30 peer reviewed scientific papers and presentations, book chapters and editorials. He has given evidence on behalf of specialist associations to 3 UK wide national reviews of medical education.
Professor Jeffrey is an honorary Senior Lecturer in the University of Oxford and has been an external examiner for Warwick University, a tutor on the UCL medical education Masters course and remains a very active clinical teacher locally.
