Personal Profile

Mr Baldwin qualified in Dentistry in Liverpool (1983) and Medicine/Surgery in Manchester (1994). Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons of both England and Edinburgh were obtained, and the higher surgical training pathway completed in the North West region, before he was appointed as Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in 2003.

Mr Baldwin undertakes all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including removal of wisdom teeth, buried roots, jaw cysts; management of oral lesions, neck lumps, jaw and facial pain, facial trauma, and oral medicine. His specialist interests lie in head and neck cancer with reconstructive surgery, salivary gland disease, dental implant placement and bone grafting procedures.

In addition to his clinical activity, Mr Baldwin has been engaged in NHS clinical managerial roles locally and regionally.

For ten years (2004 – 2014) he led the head and neck oncology service within Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, and sat on the head and neck cancer pathway board for Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

He was Clinical Director for the Head and Neck service in his Trust (Maxillofacial Surgery, ENT Surgery and Plastic Surgery) from 2014 to 2017.
From 2017, he has held the position of Divisional Clinical Director (for the surgical division) in North Manchester General Hospital, in addition to carrying out a busy clinical workload.

Mr Baldwin is heavily involved in medical leadership roles nationally. He is keen to influence and mould the future progress of his specialty, and was proud to sit as an elected member on the Council of British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (2012 – 2015).
