Mr Sloan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, working at both Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospitals. He undertakes general orthopaedic surgery and trauma. Mr Sloan's specialist interest is lower limb surgery, in particular surgery for hip and knee conditions. He regularly performs hip and knee joint replacement surgery and athroscopic surgery of the knee.
Originally from the North West, he moved to Cardiff to study Medicine and graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine, in 1999, After undertaking initial surgical training in South Wales he returned to the North West of England for his higher specialist training. Mr Sloan gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2002, and then an lntercollegiate Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2008. He was awarded the certificate of completion of surgical training in 2008.
Appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust in July 2010 Mr Sloan took up his post in November 2010. During his final year of training he was fortunate to undertake the Charnley Arthroplasty Fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, working under the supervision of two of the UK’s leading arthroplasty surgeons.
Mr Sloan has an interest in medical education and research. He has published and presented both nationally and internationally. He is regularly invited to teach on post graduate courses.
Mr Sloan is married with 2 young daughters and enjoys a wide variety of sports. When time allows he enjoys playing the piano and trombone. Mr Sloan has been appointed as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Department of Postgraduate Medicine and Dental Education, University of Central Lancashire.
