Training and Appointment

Mr Agwunobi is a Consultant General Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Wythenshawe site. He qualified in 1987 and following that he undertook extensive specialist training in gastrointestinal surgery in the South and the North West of England. Mr Agwunobi was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Manchester in 2002 and was initially appointed as Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust in 2002 where has was the Lead Upper GI Surgeon for 7 years, during which time he led the development of keyhole techniques for treating gullet and stomach cancers.

Current Practice

Mr Agwunobi currently is a Consultant General Surgeon at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He is involved in the training of junior doctors and medical students. Mr Agwunobi is a Faculty member of a course training future laparoscopic (keyhole) surgeons. His practice includes keyhole treatments for common conditions such as hernia, gallstones (gallbladder removal), hiatus hernia and chronic acid reflux, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, skin lumps and investigation of abdominal pains. Mr Agwunobi also works at the Urgent Care Centre at BMI The Alexandra Hospital which provides a walk-in, self-pay service that patients do not need a GP referral for.


Mr Agwunobi has published in many peer reviewed journals, presented at national and international meetings and has written a book chapter
