Mr Azhar Shabbir

Personal profile

Mr Azhar Shabbir completed his basic surgical training in general surgery and advanced surgical training in upper GI surgery from a prestigious medical institute in Pakistan. After finalising surgical training he worked as a consultant in a state of the art surgical institute overseas.

Mr Shabbir moved to the UK in 2009 and worked at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a clinical fellow in Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary and Upper GI Surgery. He completed his fellowship in Pancreatico-Biliary Surgery from Aberdeen in 2009. Since 2010, Mr Shabbir has worked as a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon in Aberdeen, Wirral and Bolton before being appointed as a Consultant General and Upper GI surgeon in Leighton Hospital in April 2017.

Mr Shabbir has over 15 years diverse experience of working as a general surgeon. He is a recognised educational and clinical supervisor affiliated with the north west deanery. He has various national and international publications and presentations on gall bladder disease, hernias and keyhole surgery.

Clinical Interests

Mr Shabbir has a special interest in Upper Gastrointestinal and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery which forms the majority of his work. He specialises in particular in Upper GI and Pancreaticobiliary surgery. His area of special interest include complex gall bladder and gallstones disease and hernias. He enjoys extensive experience of procedures like laparoscopic cholecystectomy with or without bile duct exploration, key hole or open hernia repair, and key hole surgery in general along with general surgery procedures like lumps and bumps etc.
