Bhuvan Machani studied medicine from India and qualified in 1993. He was elected by the Royal College of Surgeons in 2006 as a Fellow and awarded FRCS (trauma & Ortho). He also submitted his thesis on fixation of humerous fractures to the University of Liverpool and was awarded Masters in Trauma and orthopaedics. He is on the Specialist Register as an Orthoapedic surgeon.
He completed his higher surgical training from Liverpool. He always had special interest in upper limb and sports injury. To master the skills further he underwent fellowship trainig from Liverpool, Wrightington (centre of excellence), University of Manitoba, Canada, Whiston hand unit and Epsom shoulder unit. He also had opportunity of visiting Dr Gartsman in Texas to learn more upper limb surgery.
Bhuvan was recently appointed as Hand and upper Limb consultant at City and Sandwell Hospital, Birmingham. He specialises in wrist , elbow knee and shoulder keyhole surgeries. He is competent in complex upper limb trauma including minimal invasive scaphoid fixation, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand trauma, He also undertakes rheumatoid hand surgery, needle fasciotomy for Dupuytrens disease, joint replacement surgery or wrist and hand, elbow and shoulder.
Bhuvan also performs his own ultrasound scan and nerve conduction studies to promote single stop service for shoulder and carpal tunnel syndrome. Mr Machani involves patients in the outcome measures before and after treatment to measure his success and patient satisfaction. He also has his own protocol in the rehabilitation of upper limb surgeries.
He has great commitment to deal with sports injuries and rehabilitation, which he learnt whilst covering for national Ice Hockey and American football in Canada. He has vast experience in research and published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals mainly in upper limb surgery. He is a faculty member in Liverpool and Canada in advanced cadaver shoulder course.
