I have had an interest in Dermatology since my Medical Student days at the London Hospital Medical College. I initially trained in Dermatology as an HO under the care of Professor Harvey Baker at the London Hospital and then as an SHO at Oldchurch Hospital with Drs Simon Bor and Cicely Blair. After completing my SHO and Registrar Training in General Medicine, I worked as a GP Principal in Charlton and Blackheath for 7 years and developed an interest in Women's Health and Family Planning. However, I missed Dermatology and retrained as a Flexible Specialist Registrar in Greenwich District and St John's Institute of Dermatology and then the RUH, Bath and United Bristols Trust.
Whilst training in Bath, I set up a twice monthly Vulval Dermatology Service an am regularly invited to teach at national and local meetings on the subject. I received my Certificate of Specialist Training in 2002 and became a Consultant in Bath, my home city, in October 2003.
My work is primarily in adult Dermatology, both medical and surgical. I attend skin cancer multidisciplinary (MDT) meetings on a weekly basis and much of my work is involved in the diagnosis and management of skin cancers. As well as my interest in Vulval Dermatology, I also have extensive experience in Paediatric Dermatology having worked at St John's Institute of Dermatology with Dr David Atherton and also with Dr Cameron Kennedy at the Bristol Children's Hospital.
I recognise the huge impact which skin disease has on a patient's psychological well-being and feel that my broad based-training in General Practice has given me valuable insight into helping my patients.
