Personal Profile

Dr Seifert studied medicine at the University of Cologne in Germany and qualified in 1992. He came to the UK in 1993 and undertook postgraduate training within the Wessex School of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine. In 2001 he spent a year in the USA at the University of Michigan as a visiting professor. There he was closely involved in acute and chronic pain management as well as anaesthesia for vascular and transplant surgery.

He was appointed as a consultant in pain management and anaesthesia at Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust in 2003. He re-developed the pain service at the trust for which he was given the prestigious national Pharmaceutical Care Award by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in 2005.

He holds a full-time NHS appointment at the North Hampshire Hospital NHS Trust, where he was the Clinical Director of the Department for Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine between 2006-8. In addition he practises independently at the Hampshire Clinic in Old Basing.

He is one of the Foundation Fellows of the Faculty of Pain Medicine at the Royal College of Anaesthetists and is a member of the British Pain Society and the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). He runs regular training courses for GPs, medical students, allied health professionals and interested members of the public. He is involved in regular research relating to acute and chronic pain management.

Dr Seifert specialises in the accurate diagnosis and treatment of neck, back and related nerve root pain.

Further areas of his specialist expertise include the management of Complex Regional Pain Syndromes (RSDs) and the use of treatment injections for muscular pain and migraines. He is regularly involved in the treatment of sportsmen and women, particularly the members of the British Equestrian Team.

His philosophy is that early diagnosis and minimally invasive interventional therapy substantially reduce the likelihood of disability.
