Mr Knapp has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Lincoln County Hospital since December 2007 and United Lincolnshire Health Trust Ophthalmology Clinical Lead since 2022.
In his NHS practice he carries out cataract surgery and the medical treatment of a wide range of ophthalmic problems including Glaucoma. Oculoplastic surgery is the surgical treatment of tumours and abnormalities of the eyelid and surrounding area. Mr Knapp treats peri-ocular skin cancers and eyelid malposition such as entropion and ectropion, ptosis (droopy eyelids) and dermatochalasis (excess skin on upper eye lids).
He also carries out lacrimal surgery and treats orbital disorders such as thyroid eye disease.
Mr Knapp carried out a Neuro-Ophthalmology fellowship and was awarded an MD doctorate in 2009. He treats a wide range of neuro-ophthalmology disorders although he does not carry out squint (strabismus) surgery. In addition to his doctorate, he also holds a BSc Honours degree in Optometry, and he is a Clinical Associate Lecturer at the University of Lincoln Medical School.
He has presented to national and international meetings, and has 28 publications in respected medical journals, as well as having written two book chapters in a surgical atlas. Mr Knapp attends national and international conferences to keep up to date with the latest techniques, treatment and conditions.
