I am a consultant neurologist and honorary senior clinical lecturer at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust and University of Southampton. I studied medicine and specialist neurology training in Sydney, and then moved to the UK on a clinical fellowship at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford before undertaking a PhD in Cambridge. I then moved to Southampton and provide general neurology clinics covering all neurological conditions at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, with subspecialist neurology clinics and research at University Hospital Southampton. I am the lead clinician for the Wessex Cognitive Disorders Clinic and the Wessex Regional Huntington’s disease service.
I have extensive research interests focussed on optimising diagnosis of dementia, and stratifying post-diagnostic care in dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases, with particular reference to younger-onset and atypical dementia. I am the lead investigator for a range of clinical academic and commercial trials in dementia and neurological long-term conditions. I am the dementia theme lead for the Wessex NIHR CLAHRC, Divisional Clinical lead for the Wessex Clinical Research Network, and Divisional R&D lead at University Hospital Southampton. I have lead the Wessex Strategic Clinical Network for Mental Health, Dementia and Neurology for the last 4 years.
I welcome referrals of patients with any neurological disorder including headache, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease or other movement problems, multiple sclerosis, sensory problems or weakness, nerve and muscle disorders, cognitive disorders and dementia.
