Claire is a Consultant Gynaecologist who has expertise in managing vulval disorders. She graduated from St. Bartholomews and The Royal London in 2003 and did much of obstetrics and gynaecology training in London before moving to the Midlands. Claire chose to specialise in diseases of the vulva and cervix and in 2011 began training in psychosexual medicine.

Claire was appointed as a Consultant in Gynaecology in 2016 at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. She manages common gynaecological problems such as heavy and painful periods, irregular vaginal bleeding, pre-menstrual syndrome, menopause and HRT.

Claire delivers a specialist vulval service and has complemented her work by gaining the Diploma and Membership examinations with the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine. Claire understands that vulval disease often negatively impacts on a woman’s sexuality and she is happy to address these issues.
Claire is an experienced colposcopist and has worked as the Lead Colposcopist in her NHS Trust. Claire has worked hard to educate women around the importance of the cervical screening programme and its success at preventing cervical cancer.

When not at work Claire loves to escape to the coast with her husband, two children and dog in the family’s vintage campervan.

Claire is the founder of ‘The Vulval Clinic’ which is a specialist clinic to manage conditions of the vulva, vagina and cervix. This includes vulval skin conditions, pre-cancer of the vulva and recurrent vaginal discharge. She has a particular interest in vulval pain syndromes and has a dedicated vulval pain clinic. Claire manages women with vulvodynia, pudendal neuralgia, painful intercourse and issues following childbirth.

Claire’s other area of expertise is colposcopy. She manages abnormal smear results and postcoital bleeding. Claire understands that having a cervical smear test can be difficult for some women and is happy to help women overcome issues surrounding cervical screening.
