Dr David Donnelly trained in Medicine at The University of Manchester. After graduation with Honours he undertook training in General Surgery throughout the North West before undertaking extensive specialist training in colorectal surgery. After completion of his training he was successfully appointed to the only surgical Fellowship in the UK to provide experience in advanced lower GI endoscopy training in all aspects of colonoscopy for the diagnosis and treatment of polyps.
He was appointed as Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 2010 and has been developing his practice since then. Following his appointment he has passed the rigorous assessment required to perform bowel cancer screening and has developed a tertiary referral practice for the endoscopic management of complex colonic polyps. In addition he has undergone specific training in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for bowel cancer, something that he routinely offers his patients within the NHS. Other clinical interests include the management of complex pilonidal sinus, minor anorectal conditions (haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas) and hernias.
