Ms Deborah Kemm is a highly specialist speech and language therapist. Ms Kemm trained and qualified in South Africa and has over 20 years of experience of working with children as a highly specialist speech and language therapist within the NHS. Deborah has a wide range of experience with babies and children/young people up to school age with communication and swallowing disorders.
Ms Deborah Kemm has a special interest and specialism in children with feeding and swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) from birth to 19 years, and she is the clinical lead for dysphagia on the neonatal unit and paediatric wards as well as across the Pre-School Service in the NHS. Deborah has worked in the neonatal unit and paediatric wards in South Africa and across a number of NHS Trusts and is passionate about working with babies and children with eating and drinking difficulties and supporting them and their families.
Ms Kemm is also a highly trained specialist in autism with children and young people up to age 19 years. She has clinical experience working with children in a wide range of settings such as nurseries, mainstream schools, special educational needs schools, clinics and hospitals. Deborah is fully trained and experienced in standardised assessments like the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) and has carried out numerous multidisciplinary Autism assessments in her previous role at the Child Development Centre and as an independent practitioner. Deborah works alongside other professionals as part of the diagnostic pathway and contributes to the autism diagnostic assessment in accordance with NICE clinical guidance. Deborah regularly attends ADOS-2 reliability training to ensure she maintains the highest standards in the clinical contexts she works in and is in line with international calibration.
Ms Deborah Kemm has also worked extensively with pre-school children with complex developmental disorders and medical conditions e.g. Cerebral Palsy, Syndromes, neuromuscular conditions, congenital abnormalities, as well with children with severe to profound learning and physical disabilities. Ms Kemm provides strategies for children who require communication support and communication aids.
