Personal profile

Dr Donna Greenhalgh has been a Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist and Intensivist at Wythenshawe Hospital, South Site Manchester for over 27 years, and has recently retired from NHS practice but has continued in private practice.

She is the Past President of ACTA (Association of Cardiothoracic Anaestheists) and was on the Directory Board for EACTA (European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaestheists), The International Committee for the ICCVA (International Congress of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists), EACTA representative for the Program Committee for the SCA, (Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists) and was an examiner for the Royal College of Anaesthetists for 11 years.

She developed transoesphageal echocardiography (TOE) at UHSM and ran an internationally-known TOE course for 15 years. Dr Greenhalgh was on the British Echo Society Accreditation Committee, and has written chapters in Echo textbooks and ophthalmology books, as well as many papers and editorials. 

Dr Greenhalgh has organised many national and international meetings, including the first (and second) joint with the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, satellite meeting to the WCA in Iguassu Falls, Argentina. The latest was the joint meeting with EACTA & ACTA in Manchester, September 2018. She is an international lecturer, World Congress of Anesthesiology Hong Kong, SCA in the USA, ICCVA New Zealand & Brazil, EACTA, ACTA and CASSA.
