Born, schooled, gained University education in Mumbai, India, trained to become an Orthopaedic surgeon, stood first in the Master’s degree Examination in Orthopaedics and Trauma in 1975 in the University of Mumbai and was appointed and worked as an Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at the  Nair Teaching Hospital in Central Mumbai – a multi speciality hospital with 400 beds, a designated  Trauma Centre with Cardiac and Neurosurgery. Work involved non – operative  and operative management of Deformities, arthritis, infections and fractures of the Spine, limb bones and joints; Surgery on deformities due to Poliomyelitis and congenital deformities  of the hips, knees and feet. 

Invited to work as an Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon at the Piramal Charitable Centre for Handicapped children in Worli Mumbai. This centre specialised in the management of limbs affected by Poliomyelitis. Work involved prescribing appropriate callipers, surgical bony correction of deformities and tendon transfers to facilitate calliper fitting and improve mobility.  

Came to the UK in 1986, received further training at the Royal National Orthopaedic hospital, St Thomas Hospital in Central London, the Royal Liverpool Hospital, the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Children’s hospital in Sheffield. Appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon in 2002 at the Medway Maritime Teaching ( NHS ) Trust Hospital in Kent, a busy  multi-speciality hospital which took in emergency medical, surgical cases and road traffic accidents. Work included surgical management of fractures and injuries to the  upper and lower limbs, surgical treatment of Acute Lumbar disc Prolapse, hip, knee and ankle replacement for arthritis, surgical management of sports injuries to the knee including Cruciate ligament surgery and cartilage surgery and correction of foot deformities and emergency  management of painful conditions and sports injuries. The week’s work included 5 operating sessions, three orthopaedic and fracture clinics , one teaching session and participated in the Trauma rota.
