Personal Profile

Professor Skiadaresi is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Hywel Dda University Health Board working across Prince Philip Hospital, Glangwili Hospital and Amman Valley Hospital. She offers cataract surgery and retinal treatments.

Professor Skiadaresi undertook her medical and surgical training at the University of Trieste in Italy, graduating with honours (110/110 magna cum laude) followed by a residency in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery (50/50 cum laude). She has extensive training including fellowships at Moorfields Eye hospital and Bristol Eye Hospital.

Professor Skiadaresi treats all aspects of Ophthalmology with sub-specialist expertise in retinal and inflammatory conditions (uveitis). These include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, cystoid macular oedema, retinal vein occlusion, and central serous retinopathy. She is an experienced cataract surgeon covering the breadth of routine cases to complex cases and is a trainer for ophthalmologists in training within the NHS. She is the lead for the Medical Retina service for Hywel Dda and routinely treats patients with laser, anti-VEGF injections including Lucentis and Eylea as well as steroid implants including Ozurdex and Iluvien. She has multiple research interests in Ophthalmology and has published several articles in high impact factor peer reviewed journals including the Lancet. She is undertaking research projects within Wales as well with international collaborations. She sits on the editorial board of an ophthalmology journal and is a reviewer for multiple scientific journals.

Professor Skiadaresi has a strong interest in teaching, regularly contributing to undergraduate medical student education and teaching other health professionals including nurses and optometrists both in direct teaching sessions and published educational articles and book chapters. She is a strong believer in multidisciplinary team working, empowering other health professionals and encouraging professional development and collaboration. She also holds a Masters degree from Swansea University in Health Care Management and her aspiration is to improve quality of care and standards in Ophthalmology in Wales for the benefit of patients, implementing research and innovation into NHS clinical practice.
