Clinical Interests

Miss Mellington specialises in all aspects of eyelid, lacrimal (tear drainage), eye socket and orbital disease, and also has a weekly general ophthalmology clinic. 

She has a specific interest in eyelid biopsy, tumour removal and reconstruction, eyelid lifts, brow lifts, cosmetic eyelid surgery and non-surgical facial rejuvenation, blepharospasm, watery eye surgery (punctoplasty, eyelid tightening, dacryocystorhinotomy), orbital disease (including causes of bulging eyes), thyroid eye disease, eye removal and eye socket reconstruction.

Personal profile

Faye Mellington read Medicine at Oxford University and graduated with degrees in Medicine and Physiological Sciences (First class) winning several prizes and awards. After initial experience in Emergency Medicine in Australia, and Anatomy Prosection at Oxford University, she undertook specialist Ophthalmic training in London and then the Oxford Deanery. 

Miss Mellington’s subspecialist expertise in Oculoplastic and Orbital surgery was developed over several years through advanced subspeciality training in Oxford and Buckinghamshire and as an Oculoplastic and Orbital Fellow at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

Faye Mellington is a currently a full-time Consultant Ophthalmic Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgeon at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe. Miss Mellington was appointed in February 2015 as a full-time Consultant Ophthalmic, Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgeon at BMEC and Honorary Consultant at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. She is the lead orbital surgeon at BMEC.

Miss Mellington specializes in all aspects of eyelid, lacrimal (tear drainage) and orbital disease. Areas covered: removal of eyelid cysts, eyelid biopsy, tumour removal and reconstruction, eyelid lifts (including blepharoplasty), brow lifts, cosmetic eyelid surgery and non-surgical facial rejuvenation (including Botox, chemical peels), blepharospasm, cataract surgery, Yag laser posterior capsulotomy, watery eye surgery (punctoplasty, eyelid tightening, dacryocystorhinostomy), orbital disease (including causes of bulging eyes), thyroid eye disease, eye socket reconstruction, general ophthalmology including red, sore and dry eyes.
